DC Equipment Seeks Feedback to Shape Future Forestry Machines

Building on the success of its initial outreach program, which inspired updates to the Madill 3000B Log Loader, DC Equipment is expanding its research and development efforts.

The company is now focusing on the future generations of log loaders, feller bunchers, and hydraulic yarders—excavator-based yarders under the Falcon brand.

These efforts reflect DC Equipment’s commitment to advancing forestry technology and addressing the evolving needs of the industry.

Initial Impact & Change Since the Acquisition

Over the past year, DC Equipment has demonstrated its dedication to enhancing the Madill product line. After acquiring Madill, the company swiftly reintroduced the 4000 Log Loader to the market within 12 months, proving its ability to revitalise and prioritise the innovation the legacy machinery brand that Madill is known as.

Today, with the new 3000B Log Loader thriving in Canadian forestry operations, DC Equipment is leveraging its expertise to broaden its outreach. The company is now targeting key product lines, including the 4000 Log Loader, feller bunchers under the Madill brand, and hydraulic yarders under the Falcon brand.

Tom Filmer, the program spokesperson, explained the significance of this expansion.

“During our initial research phase post-acquisition, it became clear there’s significant demand for Madill feller bunchers. While we couldn’t address everything at once, the time is right to explore this opportunity.”

This focus on diversification underscores DC Equipment’s commitment to meeting industry needs through product designs that fit the needs of the contractors of not only today but into the future as well.

Driving Innovation Through Collaboration

Recognising that industry expertise and feedback is vital for meaningful innovation, DC Equipment is reaching out to logging professionals including contractors and operators especially those with experience using log loaders, feller bunchers or hydraulic yarders whether it’s Madill/Falcon machines or competing brands.

By incorporating feedback from the people who depend on these machines daily, DC Equipment is looking to ensure its products align with real-world demands.

Tom elaborated on the importance of collaboration.

“We’re here to listen. While all industry feedback is welcome, we’re especially eager to hear from operators who use these machines daily or have strong preferences for certain models.”

This proactive approach ensures DC Equipment remains connected to the practical challenges faced by contractors, operators, and forestry teams, allowing the company to design solutions that make a tangible impact.

Why Feedback is Crucial

DC Equipment’s customer-centric philosophy is built on the understanding that operators are the ultimate experts when it comes to forestry equipment. The company has a proven track record of integrating user insights to enhance its machines.

“Nobody understands forestry equipment better than the people who operate and depend on it,” Tom explained.

The success of the Madill 3000 series demonstrates the value of this approach. Updates such as improved lifting capacity, enhanced serviceability, and greater operator comfort were all shaped by customer feedback. These changes have not only boosted performance but also improved reliability in demanding environments.

What DC Equipment Wants to Know

To drive these innovations forward, DC Equipment is inviting feedback on key areas of machine performance and product support including:

  • Design and features: Suggestions for components or layouts to improve efficiency.
  • Reliability and serviceability: Insights into durability and ease of maintenance.
  • Operator comfort and technology: Recommendations for cab improvements and technological upgrades.
  • Post-purchase support: Needs for better access to parts, training, and customer support resources.

Tom emphasised the holistic nature of this effort.

“When you invest in a machine, you’re not just buying steel and engineering—you’re investing in the support ecosystem that comes with it.”

How to Get Involved

Understanding the demanding schedules of forestry professionals, DC Equipment has developed two flexible ways to contribute feedback:

  • Book a 30-Minute Chat: Speak directly with program facilitator Tom Filmer to share your experiences and suggestions.

  • Complete a Quick Survey: Participate at your convenience by filling out a brief online survey over the next month.

  • Send an email: If you have something else if you'd like us to know.

These options are designed to accommodate the limited time contractors and crew members often have, ensuring that everyone has a chance to participate.

“We understand how busy the industry is,” Tom acknowledged.

“That’s why we’ve created flexible options for participation.”
